About Me

My first Counselling experience.

I discovered counselling in my early twenties, this was after a difficult childhood tainted with tragedy and hardship.

I began to pacify my emotions in an attempt to survive.

In hindsight, I was old beyond my years and I soon began to lack lustre, just ‘treading enough water to survive’ on a daily basis. I became disillusioned within, and this engulfed all areas of my life, I found no joy in anything. I also started to believe my own inherently negative opinions and my self worth diminished.

Somehow I found the strength to reach out and ask for help. I was lucky enough to receive counselling via my GP.

At first I found it extremely hard, however, slowly and surely my mood began to lift and my wellbeing improved. The relationship I developed with my counsellor was powerful and the error of my ways, my false options and negative mind-set was being reflected back to me. I was also being a little challenged and asked to elaborate on certain topics. This left with a lot of material to meditate on over the week in-between sessions. My habitual emotional defenses were beginning to be breached. We then revisited and processed some ‘unfinished business’, a back catalogue of emotions and regrets I had been supressing and putting to the back of my mind for years.

Suddenly in one session something magical happened, it was somewhat of an epiphany to me. I thought to myself, “I’ve got this” something changed deep within. The world seemed to be a brighter place, I left with a spring in my step and reconnected to old hobbies, I listened to music again.

I felt energised with a new lease of life.

After my counselling ended, I swiftly made some lifestyle changes, quit my job and relocated to the other end of the country to upgrade my education. It was here that I truly started to be myself and lived my own life accordingly.

Having lived through my own personal difficulties, and tasting the fruits’ that counselling has to offer, greatly inspired me. That initial counselling experience all them years ago really set the seed for my future and drove me to train to become a counsellor. Along the way I have worked as a scaffolder in the petrochemical industry, a transmission controller in broadcast media and an edit assistant in postproduction services.
